Marah and the Hooters

32 minutes. 500-or-so calories. Marah's "Eventually Rock" and the Hooters' "Day by Day" provided a Philly/banjo/mandolin blast that got me through the truncated workout.

Yesterday's workout

Yesterday - Again, I did the elliptical for 46 minutes, burning 700 calories. Yet, I definitely did more revolutions-per-minute on the machine, so the calorie counter looks like a horseshit measure.

Working out again, in Scottsdale AZ

Did the Precor elliptical machine for 46 minutes on a straight, standard resistance setting. Burned 701 calories according to the machine. Slowly walked back to the condo with a woozy head. Feels good to work out again, I think. Man, it's been too fucking long.

No scale in the gym, so I have no idea how much weight I've put on since I last posted results on this blog.

Weight Update

During my workout hiatus, I played some squash down in DC. While in the locker room, I weighed myself.

224 lbs.

So I've lost ~16 pounds in two-and-one-half months, without much of a change of diet. That'll do nicely.

The minute-long sprints at the 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50-minute mark were more vigorous yesterday. I pushed myself, ranging between 80-88 RPM for those five minutes.

Today, I started doing one minute sprints every ten minutes, i.e. I would go from ~60rpm to ~75rpm at the ten-minute through fifty-minute mark.

Needless to say, I was a sweaty, stank-ass mess at minute 31, 41, and 51.

I was ready to go only 30 minutes at the 23-minute mark. But I soldiered on.
I was ready to go only 45 minutes at the 32-minute mark. But this blog isn't called RenderingThePussy, so I kept going.
I was ready to stop at 60 minutes, but I hadn't kept the pace, and needed a couple of extra minutes to cross the 3500-revolution mark.

Yesterday's Workout

Worked out ~63 minutes on level 10 of the Life Fitness elliptical at an unnamed resort on St. John, burning ~850 calories and covering 8 miles-or-so of ground if I had actually gotten off of the gerbil wheel and put foot to pavement.

Today, the beach beckoned and my calves were happy to oblige with a day off.

Today's Workout

63 minutes this morning on the LifeCycle elliptical at the Ritz-Carlton in USVI. Burned ~850 calories and traveled ~8.5 miles. Started at level 7 and pushed it up halfway through to level 8.

Then late this afternoon, I did another 30+ minutes at level 10, burning ~450 calories and traveling ~4+ miles.

Over the weekend, I ate six pieces of Popeye's spicy fried chicken in a single sitting, with no sides and no biscuits. Delicious.

I suspect that bit of overconsumption will affect my weigh-in this week. Also, weighing myself in on a different scale should affect my number for this week as well.

109 Kilograms

Although earlier this week, I weighed in at 235 lbs., I wanted to note on the blog that while I was in Thailand, I weighed myself at the Mandarin Oriental's gym.

So what did I weigh on the 22nd of January?

A hair over 109 kilograms, otherwise known as 240 lbs.

Just wanted to put that out there. That I was an even bigger fatass a mere two weeks ago.

Today's Workout

Today's workout was abridged by a midday appointment.

Here are the stats for my elliptical performance:

50+ minutes
850+ calories
2900+ revolutions

Workout Goals

Today's workout goal consisted of surpassing three metrics on the elliptical:

1. 60 minutes exercising at resistance level 4 on the Pro-Form Space Saver 925.;
2. 3500 revolutions, to ensure I'm maintaining moving at a pace that keeps my heart rate elevated; and
3. 1000 calories burned, according to the elliptical's primitive computer.

I met this goal on Friday, and yesterday.

Today, I found a little extra juice at minute 59 and kept going until I passed 70 minutes, 4000+ revolutions, and 1180 calories burned.

And now I'm feeling a wee bit peckish.

The Groundhog Saw His Shadow...

So there's six more weeks of winter. Soon the sweaters and coats will be retired for the season. And there will be much fewer articles of clothing available to obscure my piggish proportions.

With the trip to Thailand and the couple of additional weeks off at home awaiting the start of a new work assignment, I've had ample opportunity to exercise. The goal is to get on the elliptical for at least an hour, and at least three days a week. I've done that for the last two weeks, and now weigh in at...

235 lbs.

Considering I started this blog a year ago, and left it to fester, let's see if I adhere to my modest goals and track some progress.

Rendering the Pig

The pig's getting a bit too big. So I'm starting this blogging gig to work on weight loss ideas, as opposed to ideas on financial gain. I hope to track my progress by using this blog as a reminder to step away from the trough, unless it's full of leafy salad.

Of course, I just asked myself, why spend time creating another blog I can neglect? And why not just get on the shiny new elliptical in the spare bedroom instead of burning two or three calories tapping away at the iBook?
